Root Canal Treatment
Endodontic therapy, also known as root canal therapy, is often the only alternative to save a heavily infected tooth from extraction when other solutions, such as fillings aren’t appropriate. If you have a severe toothache or an abscessed tooth, this could be an indication of tooth nerve or pulp infection. In such cases, a dental filling or crown alone may not be effective. Root canal therapy, where we remove the infected pulp, thoroughly disinfect inside of the tooth and seal it, could be the best course of action. A dental crown may also be recommended to help protect the treated tooth.
During a Root Canal Treatment
Though many people think a root canal is associated with discomfort, the actions we take will ensure that you’re fully numbed each step of the way. If necessary, an antibiotic can be prescribed to you before beginning treatment to clear up the infection.
While you’re in the chair, we’ll gently clean out areas of infection, create the seal and place a crown if needed to strengthen the rest of the existing tooth structure.
